District Championships
got off to
an explosive start for the Outlaws. Four senior girls The boys medley relay followed the lead and dropped an incredible nine seconds from their entry time and positioned the Outlaws in consolation finals with a time of 2:14.11. Justin Hedemark led the relay with a backstroke leg of 31.6 seconds, followed by Will Hanson's best mark of 38.3 in the breast, Lee Pyke's best of 31.6 in the butterfly and Casey Pyke's PR in the freestyle. The boys ended up third in consols behind Sweet Home and Jefferson. Justin Hedemark
added an individual spot in championship finals to the score. His final
time of 2:37.08 in the IM put him in 6th place behind Chelsea Meudt was the top finisher in the 50 yd freestyle, winning consolation finals with a time of 28.26 and 0.12 seconds faster than Championship finalist Juli Huddleston from Stayton. Lexie Comfort finished 10th and Leah Berrey 14th. In the 200 yd freestyle relay, the line-up of Leah Berrey, Lexie Comfort, Jamie Cundiff and Chelsea Meudt raced to another top six finish. The girls broke their entry time twice and ended up with a 2:01.74 behind Marist, Stayton, Sweet Home, Cascade and Philomath. The Outlaws boys with Hedemark, Hanson, Whipps and LeePyke lowered their entry of 2:01.00 to a final time of 1:55.89 and 9th place overall. The Outlaws revealed their strengths and versatility in the last two individual events of the championships. Jamie Cundiff and Casey Pyke swam to a tenth and eleventh place finish in the 100 yd backstroke and Chelsea Meudt surprised her competition in the 100 yd breaststroke. Seated 6th in consolation finals with a time of 1:28.63, Meudt swam to within 1.18 seconds of winning. She ended up 2nd behind Nicole Quirke from Marist. Cascade won District 3 on the girls' side and Sweet Home prevailed with their boys team. State Championships take place February 15 & 16, 2002 at Mt. Hood Community College Pool. |
