  Outlaws Successful
in Redmond

Only nine swimmers competed on Saturday, February 2, 2002 in the 4A JV Championships at Redmond High School against 43 athletes from Mountain View , Summit and the host team, the Redmond Panthers. Inspite of academic and conduct suspensions, as well as previous engagements, the Outlaws competed in almost every event. They put on outstanding performances and the team walked away with several top finishes and a second place in team ranking behind the Redmond boys.

Justin Hedemark won the 100 m Individual Medley with a time of 1:17.21 ahead of Redmond's Brent Vaughan and touched the wall first in the 50 m butterfly in a close  battle with Seth Parrott. The boys medley relay out swam two teams from Redmond for first place. Freshman Casey Pyke lead the Outlaws in the backstroke, followed by Will Hanson in the breaststroke, Justin Hedemark in the butterfly and anchor Lee Pyke with a converted yard time of 28.7 in the freestyle.

In a close 100 m freestyle race between the Outlaws and the Panthers, Lee Pyke fell to Jordan Goodew in the very last strokes and finished with a time of 1:13.64. Seth Parrott of Redmond and James Humprey from Mountain View finished third and fourth respectively. Will Hanson finished fourth in the 50 m breaststroke and Casey Pyke added another fourth place in the 50 m backstroke.

Top finisher in the girls team was Chelsea Meudt with a third place in the 50 m freestyle behind Redmond's Amy Kaufman and Summit's Tex Kokes. Leah Berrey finished fourth with only 0.6 seconds separating the top four swimmers. Chelsea Meudt added another third place to her list of accomplishments. A time of 1:21.55 put her behind Denise Deleone from Redmond but ahead of Bend Swim Club swimmer and Summit team member Stephanie Whitter.

Lexie Comfort swam to a solid third place in the 100 m freestyle behind two Redmond athletes and added a fifth place performance in the 50 m backstroke for valuable team points. Comfort also led the 200 m freestyle relay team off to a fast start, followed by Jacquelien Mansker , Kelsie Patterson and anchor Leah Berrey . The girls finished fourth behind the Summit and Redmond teams.
