 Swimmers  compete in Redmond

In their only local meet, a reduced Outlaws squad tested the waters in the 25 meter pool at Redmond High School in a fast paced, special format competition against twenty-one JV and Exhibition swimmers.

The Outlaws started their winning streak with a fast Medley Relay lead by Andie Lesowske in the backstroke, Bree White in the breast, Kate Canja in the butterfly and freshman Jillian McConville as anchor in the freestyle. Their final time of 2:44.34 put the girls five seconds ahead of the Redmond relay. Converted to yard times, the Outlaws’ first place time came within a second of their season best.

In event two, the boys followed suit and raced to another top finish in 2:17.42 with Casey Meudt in the backstroke, Morgan Mansker in the breast, Justin Hedemark in the butterfly and Casey Pyke finishing in the freestyle. The Redmond boys  touched the wall 20 seconds behind the Outlaws.

Rikki Glick and Kate Canja were entered in the 200 meter freestyle against exhibition swimmer Brittany Preston. Canja won the event in 2:44.15 ahead of Preston 3:07.36 and Glick in 3:15.54. There were no entries on the boys side for this distance.

Kate Canja stepped in to compete for Andie Lesowske in the 100 meter Individual Medley against Laura Thost and Bailey Standerwick. Canja finished second with a time of 1:29.16 behind exhibition swimmer Standerwick. The boys garnered another first place with Justin Hedemark finishing in the same event with a time of 1:11.83 ahead of Redmond’s David Warden 1:15.73

Four girls were entered in the 50 meter freestyle sprint. Kate Canja lead the group with a second place finish and a 35.71, followed by Kalyn Brink and 36.98, Måren Burck 37.52 and Bree White 37.80. Brandon Kinzie and Casey Pyke sprinted on the boys’ side to second and third place finishes.

In her fifth event within an hour, Kate Canja battled Redmond’s Cassandra McClellan in the
50 meter butterfly event to the very last stroke. Canja ended up second with a time of 44.64 to McClellan’s 44.29. Justin Hedemark won this event in a time of 34.21 in front of Dax Harrod and Tyler Young from Redmond.

Jillian McConville put out a commendable performance in the 100 meter freestyle in which she kept up with the Panthers Allie James for the first 75 meters. James touched first with a time of 1:26.21 to McConville’s 1:29.30. Rikki Glick finished in third place with 1:32.15. Neither the boys nor the girls had entries for the 400 meter freestyle.

The girls won the second relay of the day with a time of 2:26.93. Jillian McConville lead with a fast sprint, followed by Måren Burck, Kate Canja and Kalyn Brink. The Redmond team finished three seconds behind the Outlaws. On the boys side the finishes were reversed and Sisters took second with Casey Pyke, Morgan Mansker, Brandon Kinzie and Casey Meudt.

Måren Burck and Aubyn Geser placed second and third respectively in the 50 meter backstroke event and Casey Meudt swam to a second place finish in the same event.

The last first place finish for the Outlaw swimmers in this competition came from Bree White in her 50 meter breaststroke event. White raced a smart second half and touched the pad in 45.12 ahead of Summer Herringer and 45.94. Sisters did not have enough swimmers present to field the 4x100 meter relays in either the girls or boys.

Redmond won the meet 672 to 529 points.
