SHS SWIMMING

Winter Sports Awards
1999/2000

Winter Sports Awards were presented at Sisters High School
February 29, 2000 in the Cafetorium.

Most Improved Award
This young lady has perfected all four strokes within this season. Her time drops in every discipline as well as her sheer determination to excel in the breaststroke earned her the Most Improved Award for the 1999/2000 season.
Congratulations,
Dana Hughie
Most Inspirational Award
This award goes to an athlete that had to overcome numerous obstacles during the season and the way she conquered them all gave me abundant reason to nominate her for the Most Inspirational Award. She honed her swimming skills in a pre competition class with a local club at the beginning of the school year, joined the SHS Swim Team as a home schooled student and became an integral part of our team efforts.
Congratulations,
Heidi Whipps
Most Valuable Award
In her fourth season on the Sisters High School Swim Team, Hilary won the majority of all events entered during the 1999/2000 season. She remained victorious in defending her District title in the 200 I.M. and was runner-up in the 100 yds breaststroke. Inspite of a lengthy recovery from rotator cuff repair, she represented Sisters High School at the State Championships and finished in fifth place in the Individual Medley.
 Congratulations,
Hilary Hedemark
Most Improved Award
This young athlete came to High School Swimming with rather limited skills but quickly developed into a leader in the water. He not only mastered the flip turns in record time, coached his peers in this elusive skill, but also improved his backstroke to the point of setting a new Sisters High School record by the end of the season.
Congratulations,
Travis Comfort
Most Inspirational Award
This swimmer inspired me in many ways. He is one of those multi talented people that is artistic, musical and athletic all in one. Football season was not kind to him, he came off the field as a kicker with a broken foot, had to be replaced and the team went on to win the State Championships the second year in a row without him. Nevertheless, he came to the pool, a bit for therapy, a bit for social involvement and maybe some for training as well. His stamina, form and sheer desire to do well made him the fastest sprinter of the group. He broke the Sisters High School 50 free record
and barely missed a medal at the District Championships.
Congratulations,
Nick Patterson
Most Valuable Award
This young swimmer was very  likely the most talented swimmer. All his strokes are excellent and his endurance is one of a kind. During our high school competitions, he was willing to swim any event and he amassed the most points for the team on the boys' side. He is definitely one to watch for in the next few years. Several high school records will be carrying his name.
Congratulations,
Kevin Carlsmith
