In a field of the most talented swimmers of 3A, 2A and 1A
high schools, the Outlaws freestyle relay team with Casey Meudt, Casey Pyke, Kyle Whipps and Justin Hedemark dropped
another two seconds from their just
recently established Sisters High School record and State qualifying
time of
1:41.42. Plagued by colds and sinus trouble, the four swimmers met the
challenge and swam to personal bests in each segment. Casey Meudt led the relay
with a 24.5 second split, followed by Casey Pyke’s 26.4, Kyle Whipps with 24.9
and Justin Hedemark as
anchor finished in 23.4 seconds. Their combinded time of
1:39.27 put them in 9th place.
Junction City and Marist were the
only other District 3 contenders faster than the Outlaws. Junction City
finished
in 6th with a time of 1:38.66, qualifying for Championship Finals,
and Marist was first alternate with a 1:38.97. Justin Hedemark finished 11th in his 100
yard backstroke
entry and 12th in the Individual Medley.
