The position of 3rd base is played down the third base line the point of it is to stop any baseballs that go down the foul line and any thing that goes between the shortstop and himself. here is a picture of a person that plays third base his name is Alex Rodriguez he plays for the New York Yankees.                                             

1st base is played down the first base line but just a little bit to the right. The point of 1st base being there is to stop any ball going down the 1st base foul line and between the 2nd baseman. in the picture below there is an all-star 1st baseman Albert Pujols.

2nd base is played to the left of second base and is meant to stop balls going up the middle and between the first baseman and himself. Below I have a picture of an all-star 2nd baseman Jose Vidro and he plays for the Washington Nationals.

Shortstop is the position between the 3rd baseman and 2nd base his purpose is to also stop any baseball going up the middle and anything between the 3rd baseman. Below is the all-star Shortstop Derek Jeter who plays for the New York Yankees.

Pitcher is a position that is in the middle of the infield and what this person does is throw the ball to the batter so he can hit it or the pitcher can strike him out. The person below is a pitcher who plays for the Minnesota Twins, Johan Santana.

Catcher is a very important position it is played behind home plate and the point of the position is to stop all balls that the pitcher throws him and to gun down anybody trying to steal a base. Below I have a picture of an all-star catcher Ivan Rodriguez he plays for the Detroit Tigers.

Right field is a very important position the point of right field is to stop anything that goes over the first baseman's head the position is played behind 1st base. Below is a all-star Vladimir Guerrero who plays for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Center field is a very important position it is used to back up any throws that that has been thrown by the catcher and he has to be really fast because he is playing at the deepest part of the field. Left field is very important because he is the person who backs up 3rd and when the catcher throws it down he has to back them up. Left field is played behind 3rd .
