Did you know that Sisters Middle School has a Book Club? The Sisters Middle School Book Club is a group of students in the 8th Grade that read challenging books of their choice in an organized fashion, with meetings and everything that a regular club would have. The members of the Book Club are Dane Moorehead, Ryan Burbank, Jesse McMillan, Riley Gilmore, Seth Rodriguez, Mitch Small, Carli Redfield, Savana McBride, Rachael Sims, and myself. The leader of the group is the 8th Grade Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Dunaway. The books we are reading are Monster, Jurassic Park, Dave Barry Slept Here: A-Sort of History of the United States, Across the Nightingale Floor, and Ender's Game. The authors of those books are (in order) Walter Dean Myers, Michael Crichton, Dave Barry, Lian Hearn, and Orson Scott Card. So far we have read Monster and are currently reading Jurassic Park.

Monster is a book based on the story of a man convicted of  a murder he didn't commit. In the book the main character is Steve Harmon, a sixteen- year old boy in the streets of New York. He is on trial for felony murder along with another suspect.  This is a good book that tells about how the trial went from beginning to end, but still leaves you wondering whether Steve Harmon is innocent or guilty. An interesting fact about Monster is that it is written in the same style as a movie script, which makes it a very unique book.

Jurassic Park is about a group of people that meet together on an island that has been turned into a dinosaur zoo by a rich, dinosaur-crazy man. The group soon learns that holding these genetically modified dinosaurs is very dangerous, even if they are in cages, and they also learn that you cannot contain a safe, enclosed environment. This book is interesting, and sometimes very suspenseful. It can also be informative and would make a good reference book for dinosaur names.

Dave Barry's, Dave Barry Slept Here: A-Sort of History of the United States is a clever comedy book. It is about the history of the United States with a twist of humor that makes it fun. It's just one of Barry's many books: Dave Barry in Cyberspace, Dave Barry's Complete Guide to Guys, Dave Barry Is from Mars and Venus, and many more...

Across the Nightingale Floor is a fantasy book that takes place in feudal Japan. It has things about the Japanese culture, language, and even the overall geography of the country. Not everything in this book is true though, so there are some things that make it different from the real thing. For instance, there are people with magical powers and abilities. There are also assassins, samurai, ninjas, and killers involved in the tale which makes it very interesting. It is the first book in the Tales of the Otori series.

Ender's Game is a science fiction story about a boy on futuristic Earth. In this book there are aliens that have attacked Earth two times, so the humans are creating armies of geniuses to fight the aliens. The main character, nicknamed Ender, is sent to Battle School to be trained, and he's only six years old. This book is about how Ender is to lead Earth's people against the evil aliens, also known as Buggers.
