Basic rules

Rule 1:            Thrown in’s; when the ball crosses over the touch line the team that DIDN’T touch it last gets to throw it in.

Rule 2:            Corner kicks; when a team kicks the ball over their own goal line (not into the goal) the opposite team gets a free kick on the corner of the field

Rule 3:            Goal kicks; when a team misses a shot at goal or kicks a the ball beyond the opponents goal the opponent team will be offered a goal kick, the ball is then placed on the corner of the goal box and kicked out of the penalty area.

Rule 4 :           Free kicks; free kicks don’t happen all that often, but if you do end up getting a free kick it is most likely because the opposite team has touched the ball with their hand or harassed one of the opposing teams players. So, you place the ball wherever the player was harassed or there was a hand ball and kick it to one of your teammates.

Rule 5:            Yellow cards- you get a yellow card when you push or shove and it is serious and can injure the other player or if you’ve been pushing or shoving and have gotten called or gotten a warning. You usually get a call or warning first, then the card.

Red cards- a red card is after you’ve gotten a call, then a yellow card and then you get a red card. You get a read card if it is really, really serious and can injure the player seriously. If you do get a red card you are out for the rest of the game.

Rule 6:            Goalies- There is an eighteen yard box on the field in front/around each goal. When a team takes a shot and the goalie gets it then they are allowed (while holding it) to drop-kick it to one of their players. The goalie is only allowed to hold it in their hands inside the eighteen yard box. If they do go outside of it with the ball in their hands then the opposing team gets a free kick. Also, the goalie is not allowed to pick it up with their hands if one of their teammates has passed it to them, they are allowed to dribble it up the field or pass it.

Rule 7:            Players- all players are not to pick it up with their hands. If you do pick it up with your hands or touch it with your

hands the referee will call it and give a free kick where you touched it with your hand to the opposing team. You also are not allowed to harass the opposing teams players in any way (verbally or physically).

Rule 8:            Off sides- off sides is a confusing rule. Off sides is when the offense on one team is ahead of the defense on the opposing team. This makes it an unfair advantage for the offense, if the ball is passed to them they are able to take it all the way down and it’d just be them and the goalie. It is not called off sides when the ball is passed up and the player is in line with the defense and the player runs onto it.
