Did you know that the first bike was created By Ernest Michaux in the 1860’s? At first bicycles had a slow start until Penny Farther created the first real effective bicycle. Then people started to make their own versions of bicycles. Eventually major creators made their own lines of bikes like: Redline, Haro, Giant, GT, Specialized and many more. There are many different types of bikes for different reasons.
In 1817 Baron von Drais invented a walking machine that would help him get around the royal gardens faster: two same-size in-line wheels, the front one steer able, mounted in a frame which you straddled. The device was propelled by pushing your feet against the ground, thus rolling yourself and the device forward in a sort of gliding walk. The machine became known as the Draisienne or hobby horse. Inventors went on to create other bikes like the Velocipede or Boneshaker, The High Wheel Bicycle, The High Wheel Tricycle, The High Wheel Safety and The Hard-Tired Safety, all the way to the modern bicycles.
Different brands make different types of bikes. The most common types of bikes are BMX (dirt racing, tricks), Mountain bikes, street, and street racing. Different brands range in prices and quality. Each brand started at different times. They sponsor pros, like Mat Hoffman and other great riders.
Some people even create their own bikes. They bring them to shows. They get judged. If they win they get awards, sometimes even MONEY!
So no matter what you like, bicycles can be fun for anyone. Bicycles are a great source of exercise too. It’s never to late to learn how to ride a bike. So if you’ve never learned give it a try. Its a lot of fun.
