Japanese Spider Crabs

Ok, now this is a very, very, very large crab.  It is the largest crab in the world.  When its fully grown, it can reach a leg span of almost 13 feet (4 meters), and a body size of about 37 centimeters, and an astonishing weight of about 44 pounds!  How would you like one of those crawling up your leg?  Also, this crab can live up to 100 years!  Sometimes this crab is referred to as a living fossil.

Food and Where it Lives

The Japanese Spider crabs live on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean on the coast of Japan.  They often are found in the seabed about 150 800 meters down, but they can also be found laying their eggs in water that’s kinda shallow.  Roughly about 50 meters deep.  While it dwells on the bottom of the sea, it feeds on shell fish and dead creatures.
