In the Ice Ages there were Saber-toothed Cats and others different kinds of cats. That was the most feared cats back then but now we have cats that are smaller than the Saber-toothed Cats. You want to know how cats became domesticated well over the years the cats became small along with other animals like the monkey, sloth, and others animals. Cats were domesticated in Egypt. Our feline friends started appearing in 3000BC in a country called Nubia, which boards Egypt. Egypt then conquered Nubia in 2500BC. Egyptians started domesticating in that time too. the cat's first cat name was Meyo or Mau. the cat's grew rapidly in numbers in Egypt. the cat was counted as a guardian to the temple and the Egyptians worshiped them. the Egyptians thought the cat was the daughter of Iris the Goddess of the Sun and Moon. They also believed that the glow from a cat's eyes held captive the light of the sun. Besides being worshipped they kept mice and rats from over running the Egyptian grain storehouses. Ancient Egyptians also carved wooden figures of cats and crafted furniture and jewelry in the shape of cats. Most of the larger art museums today have at least one life-size sculpture of a cat from ancient Egypt. Killing a cat in ancient Egypt was a crime punishable by death. Cats were mummified when they died and saucers of milk along with mummified rats and mice were placed in the cats' tombs. Cat cemeteries existed along the Nile River and cat mummies have also been found in the tombs of ancient Egyptians. Cats were not allowed to be exported from Egypt. Cats where allowed in wars but brought back home with out any harm done to them.
