GUITARS |
|
Have you ever been to a concert? When your favorite band is jamming out and screaming? Or maybe just singing a country song and playing softly. Well whatever it is, there’s probably someone playing a guitar. Guitar is a simple looking instrument to play, yet sometimes very complicated. And you need more than just a guitar to be able to play. There is necessary equipment you should get before you try to play that great song preformed at the concert last night. There are also certain brands and types of guitars that sound differently. And you need to know all the parts of the guitar and where they are located. But in the end, it’s definitely worth the time it takes to learn how to play. |

EQUIPMENT
|
|
|
You usually think of equipment when you are doing a sport, working out, or building something, but believe it or not, there is some very necessary equipment you need to get before starting to play guitar. Some of this includes a tuner, a capo, and picks, but that's just the simple stuff. If you have an electric guitar you also need and amp., and cords to plug the guitar into the amp. And there's a specific type of guitar you need in order to be able to use an amp. |
| A tuner is used to tune the guitar, so it's in pitch, in other words, so it sounds right. You can get a tuner at almost any guitar or music store, I know they have really great ones available in Bend that are only $20. You can't play well without one. A capo isn't as important as a tuner, but if you want to play a whole song in a higher pitch, or if you get tired of playing bar chords (see paragraph on playing guitar), a capo is the thing you want to get. It pushes down on all the strings so the guitar plays the chord in a higher pitch. It's very helpful if you know how to use it the right way. Picks are used to strum the guitar, they enable you to play a certain way. Often, when playing the acoustic and electric guitar, guitar picks are used. There are many different kinds of picks. There are heart shaped, circle, picks that you can put on your fingers like rings with little metal things that stick out so you can pick the guitar strings, and last but certainly not least, the original triangle shaped pick. This pick is the most commonly used. So now that you know what equipment to get, you can start learning how to play guitar. A amp. is something that amplifies, or makes the guitar sound louder, if you ever play at a concert or talent show or any kind of performance with lots of people, you definitely need to get an amp. Amp. cords attach the guitar to the amp, if you're going to get a amp. and amp cords so you can play at a public place, you'll need to get a guitar that has a little whole at the end of the body of the guitar that is specifically used for amps. |

BRANDS & TYPES
| There are three different types of guitars that each have many brands. They include the acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and bass guitar. If you get an acoustic guitar, there are many varieties to choose from. There are also many different brands of electric guitars and bass guitars. So if you are an outgoing and adventurous person, and you don't want just a plain looking guitar, you don't have to worry. |

ACOUSTIC GUITARS
| Acoustic guitars are personally one of my favorite types of guitars. It's what I started out with and still love to write songs and play along with easy chords such as G, C, and D. An acoustic guitar can be played with a pick, or just using your finger to pick the strings or strum them. This guitar is usually made out of wood, with a nice clear plastic-like covering to protect it. And the thing that makes the acoustic guitar different than the rest is that it doesn't have to be plugged into an amp! It can be played loudly or quietly, soft or hard, and you don't have to know much to be able to play a song. I suggest that if you are going to start playing guitar, it would be a good idea to start out on an acoustic. |

ELECTRIC GUITARS
| It's really common for teens to like this guitar best. It has a really cool sound to it and although the guitar is heavy because of the metal, it looks really cool if you get a good paint job. It always needs to be plugged into an amp for you to hear it well, and it's probably what your hearing when you are listening to a c.d. or at a concert. Although there usually is an acoustic guitar or bass guitar backing it up, the electric is the one that the person in front with the microphone will usually be playing. The strings on an electric guitar are usually easier to push down compared to the strings on an acoustic, and the body of the guitar is shaped different. |

BASS GUITARS
| I have no personal experience with this guitar at all, but I'll try to explain it to you. A bass guitar only has four strings, and it usually is shaped like an electric guitar. It plays in a lower tone than the other guitars and it is used as a background type sound. This guitar is also really popular with teens. Together, a electric guitar and an electric guitar can sound pretty awesome. |
GUITAR ANATOMY
| What makes up the guitar is called the guitar's anatomy. The guitar anatomy includes the head, neck, frets, strings, and body. Without these, the guitar wouldn't. |
HEAD
| The head is where the nuts are. These "nuts" are what you use to tune the guitar strings. The head is shaped like a rectangle, and the nuts are like little rounded cubes that you can turn to the right of to the left to make the guitar sound higher in pitch or lower. |
NECK, FRETS, AND STRINGS
| The neck is where the frets and strings are located. They are used to play the guitar. When you strum the strings while pressing down on the strings right above the frets, the guitar creates noise through the sound hole (in the body). When you use a capo, it's like pressing down on all the strings in the same area on the frets. So now you know that these parts of the guitar are some of the most important. |
BODY
| The body of the guitar is where the sound hole and the ends of the strings are located. With out this, you couldn't hear the music hardly at all. On an acoustic guitar, the body is made out of wood, and on a electric or bass guitar the body is metal. In the body right above where the sound hole is on top of the strings is where you strum the guitar strings. Doing this while pushing down on the strings on the frets is what makes the music. So obviously, the body is very important too. |
CONCLUSION
| I hope that now you know a lot more about guitars than you did before. I've explained to you what equipment is necessary to have to be able to play well, what guitar types and brands are available, and the guitar's anatomy. I enjoyed this opportunity to share with you my knowledge and experience with guitars and to share with you the things I didn't know all about when I first started playing. I hope that know that you know a bit more, you will want to try out guitar too. |
