| The chukar is known as the chukar partridge, Indian hill partridge, and the rock partridge. Its original territory is Eurasia but it was introduced in North America in 1893. | Chukars like hilly rim rock area. You will never see a chukar on the flats unless they have gone down to get water. Chukars can be found in hills below sea level or up to 12,000 feet. These hills are a 7% grade or steeper. Nesting habitat is the same except nesting chukars and chukar broods are not found more than two miles away from water. | |
| Chukars usually feed in coveys. During the summer and fall chukars will eat mainly cheat grass seeds. They will also eat berries, green grass, and insects if they are available | |
| There are many predators of chukars. They vary on where they live. In Oregon the main predators are cyotes, bobcats, and birds of prey. However lynx, raccoons, feral house cats, badgers, fox, ringtails, cougars and skunks. Snakes will also prey on chukar eggs. | |
