Did you know that Sisters Middle School has an Outdoor School program still? Well, it does, and here's how it's set up: the 6th Graders get on a bus, arrive at camp, meet their High School counselors, and do team building activities over a four day period with classmates. They sleep in cabins every night with a group of four or five other kids. The main instructor of 6th Grade Outdoor School is a 6th Grade teacher, Carol Packard. The other 6th Grade teachers ( Mr. Estvold and Mr. Cox) come along as well, and help out with activities. The days that this happens are May 4th-May 7th. Click Here to see pictures.

The activities are beading, hairwrapping, friendship bracelets, tye dying, drumming, pottery, music/songwriting/poetry, and mask making. In beading the kids use seed beads, pony beads, wire, and pliers to create objects and jewelry. In hairwrapping they use embroidery thread, and wrap strands of hair with color. In friendship bracelets they braid bracelets for wrists, ankles, necks, and more... In tye dying they dye their shirts, socks, and more... In drumming they create sounds and music with buckets, drums, and percussion in a group. In pottery they learn the technique of clay sculpting and each student creates something of their very own. In the music/songwriting/poetry class the kids write poetry, turn it into a song, and present to the camp for evening campfire. The mask making activity is where the kids make plaster masks of their own face, paint it, and on the last day, they glue on the final touches, and it's finished. Mask making is a three day activity.

The students' day consists of breakfast, activities, lunch, more activities, and dinner at the end of the day. Every night of Outdoor School the kids go to bed at 10:30 pm, and every morning they wake up at 7:00 am, or they can wake up at 6:00 am to do the "Early Bird Run", which is optional.

Outdoor School is located at Camp Tamarack, which is located about 5 miles from Suttle Lake, which is about 25 miles form Sisters. It is located right next to Dark Lake, which is the lake you see in the pictures. There is also a corral, which is where an activity involving trust, takes place. Also, the pictures of kids working with clay take place in a little building right next to the lake and the infirmary. The drumming activity is the one where there are people on drums in a half indoor/ half outdoor structure. The cabins are located just to the side of the main lodge, which has the road leading in on the other side.
