Principal's Message

November & December 2004

This is the season of the year when we often pause and give thanks for the many blessings of our lives. As a principal, I have many things to be thankful for.

I'm thankful for the voters of the Sisters School District, who voted resoundingly to continue Local Option funding for our schools.

I'm thankful for our wonderful facility, which has shaped our students' behavior and attitudes in so many positive ways.

I'm thankful for the leadership our 8th graders have shown all school year. They have modeled good citizenship, academic effort, and positive attitudes. Eight grade WEB leaders have been instrumental in making our 6th graders feel welcome.

I'm thankful to be the mother of a son who often did things that fall into the "boys will be boys" category! It's given me a real sense of perspective as I try to help young men and women learn from their mistakes.

I'm thankful for the grant funding that has allowed us to offer elective programs such as Caldera and Americana, and I'm especially thankful for the wonderful teaching of Kit Stafford in these classes.

I'm thankful for the continued support of the Sisters School Foundation, which awarded thousands of dollars to help our teachers purchase special supplies and to fund programs such as Outdoor School, Interim Week, and 8th Grade Retreat.

I'm thankful to work in a school small enough so that I can learn the names of all our students (despite having to buy an occasional ice cream treat when I make a mistake :).

Finally, I'm most thankful for the incredible staff here at SMS who work so hard and have so much heart!
