One of the most treasured privileges of life in a democratic society is the right to vote. Today, as we watch nations in the world struggle for freedom and justice, we should be especially mindful of this. I urge all parents to exercise this privilege by voting in the November election! As you weigh the many issues on the Oregon ballot, I remind you of one that directly affects the Sisters School District: the local option levy (Ballot Measure 9-30). This measure continues the local option funding that voters first approved in 2000, so it will not result in any increase in property owners' current tax rate. Local option funding brought over $ 800,000 to the school district last year, about 9 % of our total budget. These funds have been used to hire additional teachers, purchase textbooks and other instructional materials, and complete necessary long-term maintenance projects at the elementary school. If you have questions about the local option levy, please contact me at 549-2099. VOTE!
