| As I enjoyed
yesterday's cool, cleansing daylong rain, I couldn't help thinking back.
Last year at this time, approximately 1000 firefighters were headquartered
at Sisters Middle School, and fires raged around us. Meanwhile, our
maintenance and custodial crews were working overtime to try to finish
remodeling our building. Each morning I would clear the construction dust
from my desk and computer. Boxes were everywhere: in the office, the
hallways, the classrooms. How things have changed in a year! This summer our building crews were able to focus on the deep cleaning and long-term maintenance that a school routinely needs. While teachers still need to arrange the desks and hang posters, their classrooms are just about set for the first day of school. I have been able to complete summer "big picture" planning that was thrown by the wayside in last year's chaos. In short, we're rested, re-energized, and ready for our students to return! |
