The teacher I’m talking about is Mr. Glick. He teaches 8th grade earth science. He teaches these subjects at Sisters Middle School. Mr. Glick has always had a passion for science, he teaches topics like rocks, volcanoes, fossils, space, stars, and planets. He is intrigued by the plants and new discoveries, and he works very well with children. Seeing people learn about the world and everything in it drives Mr. Glick’s life style. Mr. Glick has also worked at Oregon State University and the US Forest Service doing wild life and tree research. |
||||
Mr. Glick has lived in several places, including Corvallis working at the children’s farm home, Alsea Oregon (close to Walport), and in Sisters Oregon, where he currently resides now. Mr. Glick married his wife Cindy, and has been together with her for 35 years, they have had three kids, Casey, Rikki, and Lucas. Casey is 23 years old and a senior at OSU studying community health. Rikki is 21 and is a senior at Louis and Clark State studding Student teaching. Lucas is 18, and he is a senior at Sisters High School. All of Mr. Glick’s family loves to do adventures together in the open outdoors. |

Since Mr. Glick is such an outs door men he loves to go fishing, rafting, hiking, and any other outdoor experience you could think of. His favorite sport is fly fishing and rafting, and his favorite things to do are much the same. Fishing, camping, and traveling. “Every weekend I try to get outside for a hike or even an afternoon fishing trip,” was Mr. Glick’s answer to my question of “what do you do in your alone time?” |

Even a teacher with a great life right now could have had struggles in his past, Mr. Glick was a unfortunate participant in a terrible accident that almost took his life. “They revived me and I spent 7 days in intensive care, It took me along while to recover, but now I feel as good as ever.” With ups and downs in his life he has always had a long lasting favorite of his life, his wife and his three kids. |
||||
Mr. Glick is a well rounded person, he loves to get outdoors, but when it comes to school he is serious and cheerful and happy at the same time. He loves seeing his students succeed and have fun as their lives progress through their middle school careers. He has a standard homework policy, where late work is 20% off, and the school disciplinary policy of three misconducts receives an FYI. FYI are simply papers a student must bring home and get signed by their parents to return to the school. If a student receives too many FYI’s then they cannot participate in school events. |

“Are there any other facts you would like to share with me Mr. Glick?” Mr. Glick has one dog named Jack, he is a Labrador. His also has two horses, King and misty, and a few unnamed barn cats. They love riding the horses and the dog obediently follows. Mr. Glick’s school was k-8 and when they acted up the principal would paddle them. He had lots of friends and they were never inside until it was time for dinner. Mr. Glick explained to me that they dressed ‘dorky’ and wore short tight black pants that came up to the ankle, called high waters. They would also where white socks and t shirts. |
