Mr. Miller

Mr. Miller is more than just a teacher- he is a real person with hobbies, interests, and a family. He enjoys all things outdoors, being with his family, and combining the two. He grew up in Ohio, and sometimes teaches or plays a variety of sports. Not a whole lot more can be said by me; unlike in-school information, it is unlikely that you will run into his family, and so there is no pressing need for home life information, but if you get any information at all, it should me in Mr. Miller's words. Still, it can be nice to know- anyway, here are some non-academic questions about Mr. Miller’s hobbies and interests.

Question

Answer

What did you want to be when you were a kid, and why?

I wanted to be an archeologist, or a geologist.  I was raised (for the first 12 years of my life) in a small farming town in Ohio.  I used to collect fossils, rocks and minerals, and collected arrowheads from the Mohican Indians that I would find in the farmer's fields after the plowed them.  My two favorite arrowheads were found in our family garden and in the shallow waters of Lake Erie.  The latter poked me in the foot when I was digging in the sand with my feet.  I still have all of them.

Do you have any hobbies? Anything in the outdoors can be a hobby for me.  Fishing, skiing and camping are the first that come to mind.  My daughters / family is my biggest hobby, however.  I like to combine them both.  That's the ultimate.

Do you play/coach any sports? I have played and coached soccer, tennis and ultimate Frisbee.  I also have helped instruct a lot of kids in learning to ski and snowboard, especially when I ran a club for it at my old middle school.  Oh, and I coached football for two years, but I think I learned more from the kids than I taught to them.

What is an unusual fact about...
...any other part of your life? I have choked, nearly to death, twice, on roast beef sandwiches.  I also have a big dent in my head for a major injury I got from falling down a "hill" when I was younger.  If I ever seem confusing, I'll just blame it on that.

Anything else you would like me to put up on the web page? Comments from students about how I am clearly, the most incredible, fascinating, and stimulating 8th grade Language Arts teacher in Sisters Middle School.
