The two periods Mrs. Packard teaches for Science are fifth period and sixth period. That's when she doesn't have sixth graders because she sends them off to other classes. I have her fifth period science class. We just finished invertebrates and started vertebrates with fish.

We will also learn about amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Reptiles are what we are going to learn about next.

If you are wondering what an invertebrate or a vertebrate is, an invertebrate is a animal without a backbone like squid. A vertebrate is a human or other animal with a backbone.

When we dissected the starfish and fish we first examined where the anus on each one was and looked and felt for teeth in the fish. We also took a sample of the scales from the fish and looked at it under the microscope. Then we cut the tips off three arms on the starfish to see the insides and felt the spikes on its skin from the outside.

When we studied invertebrates, we learned about mollusks, insects, worms, and many others. When we studied crawfish,  we looked at one and found items on it like the swimmerets and the tail fins. When we studied insects, it was pretty funny because Whitney took my observation tray, that had a cricket on it, and the cricket fell on Madeline and she couldn't find it because it stuck to her sweater.

I hope you learned about what we study in science and the fun we have. If you haven't learned anything, that's good for you. If you have learned something, that's great.

Above I showed pictures of some students in my class and the teacher. James is on the left and Kody is on the right. In the middle is a picture of Mrs. Packard helping John.
