Pole Vault Pole vaulting is an extremely challenging event. You have to have timing and coordination. First you run with the pole up in the air, then after you take 3 steps you lower the pole so that the tip is right above the ground, lastly after your 5th step you put the pole in to the pit and jump. When you jump and don't hit the pad or you knock the pole off it is considered a scratch.
Look to the left to see how it's done. |

Long jump is a pretty easy event. What you do is you run a short distance and you jump of a board. If your foot passes the board it is considered a scratch. Also when you jump there is a certain you have to jump. When you leap off the board you throw your arms forward in order to make you go farther and make you fall forward. If you fall back they will mark the farthest mark in the sand back.
