The Individual Education Program
Plan (IEP) is a written plan developed by the parents and the
schools special education team that specifies the students academic
goals and the method to obtain these goals.
Annual Goals
Annual Goals
are statements, written in measurable terms that describe what the
student can reasonably accomplish in a 12-month period. There should
be a direct relationship between the goal statements and the student’s
present levels of educational performance. The goals should also be
designed to assist the student in reaching the student’s postsecondary
goals. Each goal must include:
Criteria:
How will the skill be demonstrated by the student to be considered
successful; and,
Evaluation Procedures:
How the student’s performance will be evaluated.
Special Education
Placement Determination
Placement determination is made by a
group of people, including the parents, which are knowledgeable about
the student and knowledgeable about the evaluation data and placement
options. This can be accomplished by obtaining signatures of
participants, or by listing the names of individuals that participated
in this determination. Consent is required for initial placement into
special education; it is not required for the annual placement
determination.
