Special Education
We believe that every student is a valuable member of our caring community.  We believe that each student can succeed and can grow from interacting with one another in the least restrictive environment possible.  As a result of our beliefs, we strive to create programs for our special education students that allow them to be mainstreamed with non-disabled students while meeting their individual needs.

We have an outstanding staff of highly trained teachers and paraprofessionals who work with parents as team members in the process of developing effective individual education plans.  We focus on differentiating instruction and work closely with regular education teachers to insure student achievement.

The Sisters School District Special Education Department works closely with other area school districts to collaborate on best practices and procedures.

We welcome you to contact us if you have any questions regarding our services and programs.

Title I

Sisters Elementary School has a Reading Team who annually assesses the reading of all students and the primary grades, as well as new and teacher referred students. We believe that all children deserve plenty of assistance when they are not experiencing the progress or success in reading that their peers are.

Title I is part of a federal program designed to give students an extra boost to get back to grade level in a particular subject, usually Reading.  Reading help is offered at both Sisters Elementary and Sisters Middle School.

We offer small group instruction in a balanced Reading program that emphasizes phonics and comprehension strategies for reading fluently.  Direct instruction is based upon the students’ specific needs.  At the elementary school, the small groups do not interfere with classroom reading instruction, but are a 25-40 minute “personalized second dose”.  At the middle school, the classes also emphasize content reading strategies to help students read textbooks.
