Interdisciplinary Environmental Expedition


 

About IEE

The IEE course involves integrated Environmental Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Outdoor Recreation curriculum. High school juniors develop of community partnerships and work on achieving a Natural Resources CAM (Certificate of Advanced Mastery). The students meet every day for two periods in the 1st and 3rd trimesters, and go on weekly field studies. IEE is worth 1 credit in Science, 1 credit in English 11 or Honors, .5 credit in Civics/Government, and .5 credit in Outdoor Recreation. Some studies and projects the class is involved in are:

-Native Plant Restoration
-Wildlife
-Geology
-Soil Analysis and Studies
- Logging and Reforestation
-History/Archeology

Students enjoy recreational activities such as:

- Mountaineering/Camping,
- Fly fishing,
-Mountain Biking
-Rock Climbing

Mission Statement
The Interdisciplinary Environmental Expedition course is composed of a community of learners working together to gain a balanced, in-depth understanding of the natural environment. Using an integrated course model, students will be provided with the educational experience and opportunity to study and learn about the natural environment through a hands-on format. Students will learn experimentally by applying knowledge and skills to their immediate environment. Students will be given the opportunity and the necessary tools to create positive change within the school and surrounding environments. This course is committed to developing community partnerships that result in a shared vision of stewardship and a sense of appreciation for and responsibility to the world around us.
