Sisters High School swimmers had some outstanding results during preliminaries of the State Championships at Mt. Hood Community College on Friday, February 15, 2008. Top six finishers will return Saturday for Championship Finals.

Brittany Baldessari won preliminaries in the 100 yards backstroke and finished with the 8th fastest time in the 50 yards freestyle.

Brian Greaney, seeded 4th, swam his best 100 yard backstroke race of the season and established a new Sisters High School record in the process. His prelim time of 55.34 was the second fastest of the day and put him within reach of winner and District Champion Jayce Calhoon from Sweet Home.

Greaney's 200 yards freestyle was the 8th fastest time in the state.

Seeded 4th in the 200 yards Medley Relay, the Outlaw girls - swimming without standout anchor, Felicia Pledger, raced to within 0.4 seconds of their best and held their ground. Brittany Baldessari led the relay in a good backstroke leg, followed by  Chelsea Flanders in the breaststroke, freshman Tia Berg in an outstanding butterfly leg and anchor Courteney Satko in a fantastic time of 25.8 seconds.

Satko's PR was 0.8 seconds faster than her 50 yards freestyle leg on the 200 yards freestyle relay at Districts.

Courteney Satko also finished 4th in the individual 50 yards freestyle and 7^th in the 100 yards freestyle.

The girls' 200 yards freestyle relay with Brittany Baldessari, Hillary Johnson, Tia Berg and Courteney Satko finished 8th. Best times were swum by Hillary Johnson (29.3) and Tia Berg (28,8).

The boys' relay, seeded with a time of 1:41.37, swam outstanding individual segments. Holden Sellentin led off with a 24.7 seconds (PR by 0.9 seconds), Justin Duvenick followed in 25.9 (PR by 0.8 sec.), Allan Schaad in 25.7 (PR by 0.9 sec.) and Brian Greaney in 23.7 (PR by  0.5 sec.). Their final time of 1:40.0 was the 12th fastest time among all State qualifiers.

Brittany Baldessari defended her number one prelim seed and raced an outstanding 100 yards backstroke to a gold medal.

Attacked on both sides, by Kayla Heath(1:04.36) from Phoenix in lane 2 and Kristin McBride(1:04.90) from Henley in lane 1, Baldessari dropped almost a second from her entry time of 1:05.10 and finished her season and her senior year with a personal best of 1:04.20.

Baldessari also led the medley relay team to a fifth place finish and a spot on the podium. As lead off swimmer, Baldessari swam a 29.8 (PR) in the backstroke, followed by Chelsea Flanders in the breaststroke (36.1), Tia Berg in the butterfly (32.5) and Courteney Satko as anchor in the freestyle (26.0). La Salle, Taft, Cottage Grove and Marist finished ahead of the Outlaws.

Courteney Satko and Brian Greaney were also on the medals podium for their fourth fastest times in the 50 yards freestyle(26.27) and 100 yards backstroke(55.42) respectively. Henley’s senior, Stephanie North, won the freestyle event with a new state record of 24.06, followed by Blanchett’s Marie Miner (25.68) and Kayla Heath from Phoenix (25.77). Perennial challenger, Jayce Calhoon from Sweet Home won the 100 yards backstroke in 54.67 seconds, followed by Corbett’s Ben Hewitt (55.05) and North Bend’s Matt Johnson (55.11).

Total qualifying entries for this year’s Swimming State Championships were 110 women and 90 men. Of those, only 60 women and 50 men made it to finals and opportunities to medal in relays and individual events.
